Sammendrag
Robert Pirsig wrote Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, “the biggest-selling philosophy book ever,” yet has not been taken seriously by academia. This thesis expands the connection he sketched between human rights and his Metaphysics of Quality. I explain and assess a few aspects of this metaphysics. I proceed to develop the first human rights account based upon the Metaphysics of Quality. This involves a redefinition of ‘dignity’ and a communal basis for rights. I assess my human rights account and conclude that it, as well as the metaphysics underpinning it, are worthy of serious study.
