The main focus of this thesis is to discuss how the comics of Joe Sacco can enable a connection between the reader and the distant sufferer we encounter in his work. I will do so by analyzing three different aspects of his work; the comics medium in general, Joe Sacco´s subjective journalism, and the way he presents history in his comics. My aim is to show how his comics can contribute to a larger human rights discourse.
