This master thesis examines film reviews in Norwegian newspapers regarding films that premiered at Norwegian cinemas in 2005, 2010 and 2015. Using a quantitative content analysis I have examined 9 605 film reviews and looked upon differences between genres, films nationalities, types of newspapers and the three different years in the selection regarding number of eyes on the dice and article size. In addition, I have done a qualitative comparative analysis and compared the findings from the quantitative content analysis with how the branch organisation Film & Kino have summarised the three different film years, as well as compared the findings with a selected number of prize winners from three international film awards and the Amanda prize in Norway. The thesis main findings can be summarised by: The average eyes on the dice are approximately the same in all the years of the selection, while the average article size has increased. In average, a film review concerning a Norwegian film is longer and with a slightly better dice than a film review regarding an international film. Some genres are written longer reviews with a higher number of eyes on the dice than other genres. Finally, the juries at the film festivals and the film critics do really often agree on what is a great film.
