Sammendrag
Developments within map technologies provide an increasingly sophisticated view of the world, facilitating surveillance, management and movement. The simplified interpretations of reality presented through these technologies determine our perceptions of that reality, and change the conditions of movement in wild nature. The development of new forms of outdoor recreation is an expression of these changes. This thesis is an examination of freeride skiing and snowboarding as an example of these forms, and the relation between this way of interacting with nature and the development of facilitating map technologies. A study of these relations yields important perspectives on how technological development is influencing the way we relate to those parts of nature we have not yet transformed through our interaction with it.
