Sammendrag
ABSTRACT
The case study set out to investigate challenges faced by young adults and their parents while on home based projects after school. It attempts to identify the influences of administration (general running), socio-economic factors and preparation process on the success and failures of programs and come up with recommendations that may help improve such programs in future.
The main approach of research was qualitative and quantitative in presenting data from findings. Informal observation was used to enrich the data collected through interviews. Case study was carried out on ten young adults and their parents. Fourteen pre-vocational and vocational class teachers were selected for the study. The instruments used for collecting data were; questionnaires for teachers in schools and interview guides for young adults and their parents. An informal observation guide was used to take notes on the state of young adults and home situation
The researcher found out that most home-based projects are failing for lack of financial support, insecurity of projects, poverty, cultural attitudes, inadequate guidance and lack of community support. Some of the young adults were found to be living poor quality of life in the community.
The report concludes that most young adults and their parents are struggling to maintain programs started for them and recommends ways in which each factor affecting programs can be approached to improve future programs.
From the findings, recommendations are made to the government and sponsors to come up with more support services in form of personnel to do follow-ups after school, loaning facilities to give financial support to strengthen projects and medical assistance for the young adults.
