Flere bekrefter sin bekymring over al Qaida vennlige imamer i Norge.
Resiliens

Religious and Political clashes and a view to Radicalism
Background: 22nd July 2011Norway experienced a terrorist attack. 77 people were killed. There was an enormous fear of a future with fundamental Islamic terror action on Norwegian soil along with the unwanted negative consequences for the Muslim citizens.
The police counter-intelligence report (2012) warned against politically motivated violence from the radical Islamic groups in Norway. This is the reason that I have chosen to write about this problem: How do the Muslin youth of Norway relate to the religious, political and terrorist conflicts? These are the research questions:
1. How do the conflicts over religion, politics and terror affect the interviews lives?
2. How do they view the religious and political conflicts along with the psychosocial relationships in connection with radicalization?
We must build bridges to encourage integration, a feeling of belonging and of mutual respect in the fight to reduce the radicalization of the youth of Norway when they share their thoughts, experiences and feelings concerning such sensitive topics as religion politics and terrorism. Just by becoming better acquainted will we be able to develop a better mutual respect for each other. One of the major themes in research in to terror is the recruiting of and the radicalization process used by the extreme groups. The government requires more information about this field to be able to formulate a political environment that would prevent the early radicalization and recruitment to terror networks.
Selection and method: this study has hermeneutical, phenomenological, philosophy of science superstructure. I have for the most part used focused group interviews, supplemented with in depth interviews with a group of 16 Muslim subjects aged between 15 and 19 years.
The background of theoretical science used for the analysis process is inspired by Grounded Theory.
Summary Conclusions: The empirical data has shown many scenario when the Muslim population find themselves in paradoxical situations. They experience unavoidable risks to both their lives and their health because of conflicting limitations. Therefore the research is classified as a Catch 22 situation. My analysis of the transcribed interviews, along with memos, has given me the knowledge to propose four topical categories suited to answer my research questions.
My Little Country?
What if Al Quaida had been responsible for the attack on Norway on 22nd July? The interviewees feared that there would be an intense increase in both violence and harassment towards the Muslim population, and at worst a civil war. Many were already preparing to escape from Norway on 22nd July, even before the perpetrator’s ideological background was revealed. The problem is worse for those that have escaped from countries ravaged by war, terrorism and suffering. They feared for their lives but had no safe place to escape to. A Catch 22 scenario.
The far right extremists used their freedom of speech to broadcast anti-Islamic and radical harassment on the mass media and social channels. This resulted in all the interviewees becoming terrified for all kinds of terrorism. Constant fear, unrest and a feeling of powerlessness has resulted in a reduction in their quality of life, and restrictions in everyday living. Experiences with situations of war and terrorism in their countries of origin such as Iran, Somalia and Afghanistan, has left deep wounds that increase the risks of re-traumatization after the 22nd July.
Having Norwegian friends tends to give a feeling of belonging, fellowship and good conditions for integration. The interviewees do not initiate friendships with the ethnic Norwegian youth, for fear of rejection and the reigning suspicion that the Muslims have a hidden agenda, jihad.
Honor and Conscience
The Muslim youth report that the racial harassment, stigmatizing and religious discriminating is very insulting and reduces their quality of life. Available actions are to endure, with the subsequent fulfilling of the prophecy, or to protest.
Interviewees were put under strong pressure to agree to the Islamic fact that all Muslim youth should participate in Jihad when a member of their family or their country has been attacked. Peace and non-violent solutions are the interviewee’s mantra. This leads to a brutal point of conflict where a religious ideology puts pressure on them to solve the issue and act on their code of honor, and follow their conscience. I understand the extreme paradoxical situation where by the interviewees are pulled in opposing directions, a new Catch 22 situation.
Radicalization
All the interviewees confirmed that radicalization is active among the Muslim youth. They feel powerless in that they are unable to influence the youth, who follow the Islamic teachings, to change their way of looking at the issue. The interviewees have reflected well over the connection between the psychosocial relation and radicalization. They make the point that it is important that you feel accepted and be a part of the community that you live in along with the need for good role models. Vulnerable groups are seen as youths with drug problems, youths with a record of early criminal activity and those that are otherwise traumatized. Interviewees feel that those less nurturing parents have a huge responsibility in the fact that youths gravitate towards extreme Islamic environments. They point out that the power and the attitudes of the Imams play a very important role in the recruiting of these youths. Many express their worries over so called "Al Qaida -friendly" Imams in Norway.
Resilience
Interviewees believe in the power of dialog. They express a need to be seen, heard and accepted in the community. During the interviews they were able to hold strong appeals, to the amazement of the others in the focus group. With obvious integrity they stood over the microphone and expressed thoughts about essential themes in their lives.
The Way Forward: there are three interesting results from this study that I was unable to find similar results for in other research into radicalization. That is the focus or awareness of the responsibility of the parents. This requires them to be good role models at home and especially when they are visiting their countries of origin. It’s very important that they would oppose the use of firearms. The are further deeply concerned for the Muslim youth who will be returned to their homelands as a form of disciplinary punishment.
Last, but not least, the interviewee are concerned that those youths that are sent on violent missions may be traumatized. They are afraid that the development of anger and aggression later on in life may lead these youths to seek out the extreme Islamic groups.
This may be the important find for future research.
This study has highlighted the interviewees ‘ great uncertainty as to their role and posision in Norwegian society. There may be a reason to believe that this uncertainty and insecurity is also shared by other young people with a Muslim presence in Norway. How do we meet this uncertainties in our society? There are a number of practical challenges that naturally arise in the awake of this study. Research on radicalization and terrorism, in prevention purpose, is very important. There still exists a great potensial for new knowledge in the young Muslim population that has not yet been explored.
