Abstract
Background: The Skill training Centre at Rikshospitalet University Hospital is making a series of videos concerning the examination of children. The first two of the three videos are now completed. The Skill training Centre will additionally produce a multimedia program where the videos are included, and where the students can access information about examination techniques, normal developmental processes and children s diseases etc.
Aim: To make a video about the clinical examination of the one-year-old at the health care centre. The video seeks to educate medical students at the University of Oslo in the term where paediatrics is thought. The lectures in this subject will be held in English.
Method: Different videos with regards to examinations of children were studied. In preparation of making the video compendiums teaching medical students paediatrics were used. Several health care centres were contacted, which three of were visited for observation. The next step was to work out the manuscript and a detailed plan with drawings of the different scenes to be included in the video. A photographer, the examining doctor, a professor of psychiatrics and a professor of behavioural medicine gave feedback on the work. Two children participated. One of the children s parent is of Australian origin, the other participating parent is an English speaking Norwegian. Shooting the film took place at the Skill training Centre. A photographer from the University Hospital`s photo - and video service took care of filming and editing.
Result: A video lasting 27 minutes, which emphasises on the communication with parents and young children, in addition to skills in the paediatric examination procedures. All of the participants are speaking English.
Conclusion: The final product is the Clinical Examination of the One-year-old , - an educational video designed for medical students.
