Abstract
This thesis is an analysis of the economical and technological motive powers and the external conditions that have effected the development and introduction of the DAB-technology. In addition the thesis covers how the parties in the Norwegian market relate to this technology. The current DAB concessionaires are NRK, P4 and Kanal 5. The analysis, which discusses the motive powers and obstacles for DAB radio, is based on qualitative interviews of the concessionaries and document analysis. The motive powers can be summarised as the different technological opportunities related to the new enhanced technology for radio broadcasting, at the same time as the parties had expectations of increased profit related to the new technology. The technological optimism in the late 90 s was weakened at the turn of the millennium. This attitude affected how DAB was looked upon, as the radio of the future. Together with low sale this resulted in a preliminary obstacle to the DAB introduction.
