Abstract
Denne undersøkelsen er et case-studium av informasjon og samfunnskontakt i Statoil A/S. Ved å ta utgangspunkt i både det organisasjonsmessige og det mediekulturelle perspektivet søker undersøkelsen å se nærmere på profesjonell informasjonsvirksomhet. Informatørens egne holdninger og teoriens idealtyper, prøves mot jornalistenes erfaringer og den eksisterende medielogikken.
Oppgaven søker å finne både hvordan informasjonsvirksomheten i Statoil er organisert internt i bedriften, og hvordan den eksterne mediekontakten fungerer. Idealtypiske tilnærminger viser at det er en klar sammenheng mellom disse elementene.
Deltagelse i beslutningsorganer, strategiutvikling, og åpenhet internt i bedriften er viktige faktorer for at informasjonsarbeidet skal fungere. Personlig kontakt og tillit vektlegges i relasjon med mediene. Jornalistene plasserer tilgjengeligheten til informasjon like sentralt for sitt arbeid, som åpenhet og den uformelle atmosfæren.
Statoil har stor innflytelse på mediebildet, dette både i kraft av økonomisk tyngde, autoritet og troverdighet. Jornalistene viser på sin side en moderat kritisk holdning til konsernets virksomhet.
This is a case-study of the communication management in Statoil A/S. By taking both the organizational and the mediacultural perspective is the research seeking to view the professional public relation at a closer range. The attitudes of the communication managers, and the idealtype presented by the theories, is set up against the experiences of the journalists and the existing media-logic.
How is the public relation organized in the company, and how does the media-relation function? Idealtypical approaches show a connection between these elements.
Decision making, strategic planning, and openness in the company is of great importance to the communication work if it is to function at its optimal. Personal contact and confidence is central in the relation with the media. The journalists, on the other hand, place the accessability of the information as central in their work, as openness and the informal atmosphere.
Statoil A/S has great influence on the news, this is due to to their economic capacities, authority, and credibility. The journalists show a reasonable critical attitude towards the business of the company.
