Sammendrag
The shipping industry has recently and throughout history experienced several casualties due to cargo liquefaction. The problem is partly caused by the locations of the mines in relation to testing facilities for the cargo, unreliable data in relation to cargo characteristics, inadequate storage prior to loading and bad trade practice. The International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargo Code 2008 (IMSBC Code) recently reformed the regulatory framework for solid bulk cargoes, as it became mandatory 1 January 2011. Certainty in the Codes application to unprocessed ores and the character of unprocessed ores is evaluated, as this may influence shipowners liability and P&I cover, which is assessed thereafter.
