Utvikling av et virtuelt simuleringsmiljø for utrykningskjøretøy

Abstract

This thesis describes a development process, where the goal was to develop a graphical simulation environment for use in a driving simulator. Subjects discussed in relation to this goal are: Simulation technology in teaching and practice situations, important features in simulation applications and how specific features can be emphasized to improve the simulation. In addition to this generalized theory discussion, an evaluation and description of the development process and the actual implementation is presented.

During the development process the construction of the car that was supposed to work in conjunction with the application, was cancelled. This lead to a number of problems, and the thesis discusses how this event influenced the process. The situation that arose led to a discussion on how a development process is influenced by the constraints and expectations formed at the beginning of the process. As a part of this discussion, some strategies are presented as to how a development process’ robustness in meeting big requirements changes, can be strengthened.
