Abstract
This master thesis seeks to explore how a spiritual seeker-mentality and the defence of the use of psychedelic drugs is combined with an anti-authoritarian revolt within the Norwegian counterculture in the period from 1968 to around 1974. With the environment around Hjelms gate 3 in Oslo as a focus point, and a discourse analytical approach to various countecultural underground newspapers, I seek to understand certain å how a certain view of reality emerges and opens up for such a combination of drugs, religion and rebellion. To understand this combination, I employ certain concepts from the science of religion, such as self-religion, perennialism and holism, as well as theories of the cultic milieu (Campbell) and the psychedelic occulture (Partridge).
