dc.description.abstractVisualizing large volumetric datasets like MRI s in medicine or seismic data in geology is a heavy operation. It demands powerful video cards and computing power. This text explores the possibility of speeding up the rendering of three dimensional datasets by using wavelets. By applying a 3D Haar-wavelet to the data it is possible to extract multiple resolutions of the dataset. Since the efficiency of the Haar-transform is depending on the dimension and number of points processed it is necessary to split the original dataset in several smaller ones. The text gives a superficial introduction to computer graphics. Then the wavelet transformation is explained in detail in two and three dimensions. The pre-processing and rendering of the data is described before comparisons and the conclusion is made.nor
