dc.description.abstractCommunicating through wireless technology integrated in(to) mobile units is becoming increasingly common. People in general are used to having this means of communication at their fingertips. However, there are still areas in the world where ordinary mobile and wireless communication is not possible due to lack of infrastructure. This thesis aims to simulate an ad-hoc peer-to-peer based network, called Hikernet, to find out if such a network is a feasible alternative in regions without infrastructure. Simulating Hikernet based on topology from a popular hiking area in the Norwegian mountains, we find that it can be a cheap and useful message service for messages that can be delivered without constraints on delivery time.nor
