dc.description.abstractIn this master, we are going to generate period internal waves with two immiscible fluids and investigate the drift using PTV. The motivation is to compare to Weber and Christensen's theory on how spatial damping transfers horizontal momentum to transient Eulerian current jets at both sides on the interface. Chapter 2 will describe this theory, present the equations, and look closer to the tracking method PTV in relation to the software digiflow. Chapter 3 describes the experimental setup, discusses how we built the wavemaker and the changes we made to the design to create the waves we wanted. We also explain how we used image processing to find interfacial elevation and other wave properties. There is a section on sources of error. At the end of the chapter, we explain the prosses of processing the PTV files from digiflow. In Chapter 4, we will look at the results. First, we will compare our wavemaker's efficiency to Troy's wavemaker by making a response plot similar to his. Then we will continue to look into repeatability, reflections, and the return flow, before a thorough discussion of 12 PTV results. Finally, chapter five gives an overview of the discussion of the PTV results before giving a conclusion. In the appendix, we added a full list of all waves with the parameters we found, all processed runs that did not make chapter 4 and some code.en_US
