dc.description.abstract“E-learning in Psychopharmacology” is an Internet based learning program for medical students and others interested in learning psychopharmacology. During fall 2013, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oslo reviewed and updated the medical study program. This resulted in “Oslo revisjon 2014” with a new study plan which focuses on how case-based learning and e-learning can improve the medical knowledge and expertise among future doctors. With this in mind, the purpose of this e-learning program is to work as a supplement to traditional teaching in psychopharmacology. It gives the medical students an opportunity to learn and test their knowledge in psychopharmacology through interactive patient cases. Learning goals and learning outcomes in psychopharmacology in module 5 of the medical program in Oslo have been used to outline the most relevant material. The Item Writing Manual from NBME (National Board of Medical Examiners) (33) has been crucial in constructing high-quality multiple-choice-questions in the interactive patient cases. Pharmacological professional literature and clinical experiences from psychiatric ward at Oslo University Hospital have also played an important role in the making of these patient cases. “E-learning in Psychopharmacology” contains four interactive patient cases, respectively antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiolytics/hypnotics and the mood-stabilizing drug lithium. Each of the four cases follow a natural course of general aspects, indications, contraindications, mechanisms of actions, clinical uses of the medications, side effects and interactions. Multiple-choice-questions integrated with patient histories make the program more student-active and stimulate clinical reasoning.eng
