An evaluation was undertaken by Oppland Fylkeskommune at Hoffsvangen 172/1 and Østre Toten prestegård 94/19 between 27.09.09 and 29.10.09, in advance of the construction of parking facilities around Hoffsvangen School. A total of 70 structures were discovered which comprised cooking pits, postholes and culture layers (Storrusten, 2009). The Fylkeskommune sent a letter to Riksantikvaren on the 8th January 2010, in accordance with kulturminneloven § 8, 4. In this letter it recommended 4 areas for attention (ID: 127992, 128007, 128590 and 128592). In response Riksantikvaren recommended that ID 128590 was to be given the lowest priority and it was thought enough work had been carried out on ID 127992 to render excavation unnecessary. They also suggested they may give permission for development in area ID 127995 which is a protected area. On the 9th February 2010 Kulturhistorisk museum sent a letter to Riksantikvaren recommending that they should not develop on the protected area ID 127995. Also they recommended that areas ID 127992, 128007, 128590, 128592 and 128007 be excavated. Riksantikvaren agreed that the area ID 127995 should not be developed upon and in an e-post to the Kulturhistorisk museum dated 24th June 2010 they expressed the opinion that areas ID 95100 and 128004 should also be excavated. On the 13th July 2010 Riksantikvaren stated that 3 areas should be excavated at a cost of 955,000 kroner (ID 128004, 128007 and 95100). The regulation plan was adopted by Østre Toten kommune on the 11th August 2010. The plan was sent from Oppland Fylkeskommune to Riksantikvaren in a letter dated 20th August 2010 in accordance with jf. Kulturminneloven § 10. The Kulturhistorisk museum sent a budget and project plan to Riksantikvaren in a letter dated 31st August 2010. Excavation of the areas began on 27.09.10 and concluded on 29.10.10. A total of 247 structures where uncovered and investigated. The results are the subject of this report. Prosjektleder: Ole Christian Lønaasen_US
