Det inkommensurable: Med spesielt fokus på Kierkegaard, Patočka, Derrida og reservasjonsdebatten

Abstract

Tematikken for denne oppgåva er det inkommensurable. Det vil sei eit kommunikasjonsgap. Dette er eit emne som er relevant både i filosofi og teologi. Søren Kierkegaard skildrar det inkommensurable i boka si Frygt og Bæven. Boka handlar om den bibelske historia om Abraham og sonen Isak. Gud gjev først Abraham beskjed om å ofre Isak, men stoppar han i siste augeblikk. Kierkegaard skildrar korleis Abraham må gjere noko hatefullt mot den han elskar, og smerta og sorga som må ligge bak ei slik handling. Det vonde stikk djupare sidan han heller ikkje kan kommunisere sorga si til familien eller samfunnet rundt. Det er i eit slikt kommunikasjonsgap at religion er mest tydeleg forskjellig frå etikken, meiner Kierkegaard. Etikken må vere allmenn, medan religionen er spranget inn i galskap og er derfor personleg, framheld han. Det inkommensurable har blitt tatt opp igjen av postmoderne tenkarar som Jacques Derrida. Derrida meiner det inkommensurable også er eit emne for etikken og filosofien. Han meiner også etikken må bli forstått som noko personleg. Samstundes blir ideen om det universelle og objektive i vitskapen underbygd. Gjennom diskursanalyse og kulturanalyse vil det bli sett på om det inkommensurable også er til stade i vår tid. Debatten om reservasjonsretten for legar, som førte til mykje engasjement i 2014, spesielt rundt kvinnedagen 8. mars, vil bli undersøkt. Dette vil bli gjort ved å analysere eit utval artiklar. Ein manglande progresjon og forståing gjennom debatten viser at det inkommensurable kan seiast å også eksistere i dag.

The theme for this thesis is the incommensurable. Which is to say the gap in communication. This theme is relevant both in philosophy and theology. Søren Kierkegaard describes the incommensurable in his book Fear and Trembling. The book describes the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac. God commands Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, but stops him at the last moment. Kierkegaard describes how Abraham must do the hateful to the one he loves, and the pain and grief necessary for such an act. The sorrow is deepened by the fact that he cannot communicate his suffering to his family or society. It is in such a gap of communication that religion differ the most from the ethics, according to Kierkegaard. Ethics necessitates the common and understandable, while religion is the leap in to madness and therefore the personal, he contends. The incommensurable has been picked up by postmodern thinkers, such as Jacques Derrida. Derrida views the incommensurable also to be relevant for ethics and philosophy. Furthermore that ethics must also be understood as personal. The idea of the universal and objective in social science is at the same time undermined. Through analysis of discourse and culture it will be discussed if the incommensurable is present also in our time. The debate of the right for doctors to reserve against referring in cases of abortion, which led to much activity in 2014, especially around the time of the international women s day march 8, will be looked at. This will be done by analyzing a number of articles. A lack of progression and understanding through the debate show that the incommensurable can be said to exist also to day.
