We consider the issue of how a flexible musical space can be manipulated by users of an active music system. The musical space is navigated within by selecting transitions between different sections of the space. We take inspiration from pheromone trails in ant colonies to propose and investigate an approach that allows an artificial agent to navigate such musical spaces in accordance with the preferences of the user, and a set of boundaries specified by the designer of the musical space.en_US
