| nor |
dc.description.abstract | Intense endurance sports activity leads to remodeling of the heart called the athletes heart . These changes were believed to compromise a balanced dilatation of all four chambers. However research over the last years has shown changes in the right ventricle (RV) that not always parallell the changes in the left ventricle, both in the short and in long term. The RV is a more common for arrythmias in athletes, and in this review i wanted to look upon if there are findings that corroborate the hypothesis of structural findings that points in the direction of a possible exercise induced ARVC. Based on a summary of studies done with magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiographic doppler evaluation. There has been found that there is disproportionate RV remodelling and function compared to the left ventricle in endurance atheletes. Some of the changes that are seen points to underlying structural changes in the RV that may be assosiated with the observed arrhytmogenicity. The findings supports the concept that the ARVC phenotype may be acquiered and not necessarily attributed to a genetic predisposition related to desmosomal proteins. | eng |
