Essentially, cancer is a disease in which there is a deficiency in the management of tissue growth due to the alteration of genes regulating cell growth and differentiation. The genes in question can be affected in two ways depending on whether they are proto-oncogenes or tumor suppressor genes. miRNAs are a good way to study oral cancer as they have been shown to exhibit the qualities of either proto-oncogenes or of tumor suppressor genes in various cancer types, including oral cancer. The clinical part of the study examined miRNA expression profiles in oral cancer cell lines in comparison with normal keratinocytes.eng
