Goethes verdensanskuelse og forhold til medisinen i liv og verk

Abstract

Denne oppgaven forsøker å presentere Johann Wolfgang von Goethes arbeider innen vitenskap og hans forhold til medisinen fra en teoretisk så vel som praktisk synsvinkel. Den tar også for seg hvordan sykdom innvirket på hans eget liv og hvordan han mestret denne. Hans epistomologi og metodologi er grundig presentert som et bakteppe for en dypere forståelse for hans tanker og ideer knyttet til forholdet mellom lege og pasient, vitenskap og kunst, kropp og sjel, og sykdom og helse. Oppgaven vil også forsøke å vise hvordan Goethes syntetiske og holistiske tilnærming til naturfenomener er en fruktbar måte å tilnærme seg lege-pasient forholdet.

This paper seeks to present and deal with the work of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) in science and his relationship to medicine both from a theoretical as well as a practical view. It also renders how sickness affected his own life and how he dealt with it. My objective by this is to show in what regard Goethe has something to contribute to certain parts of modern medical practice. His epistemology and methodology is thoroughly presented to lend the backdrop to a deeper understanding of his thoughts and ideas in regard to the relationship between doctor and patient, science and ethics, science and art, mind and body and sickness and health. The paper will also show how Goethe`s synthetic and holistic approach towards natural phenomena is a fruitful way of approaching the doctor-patient relationship.
