Old dogs, New Tricks : An exploration of local climate activism in Norway and Denmark

Abstract

Hvordan involveres medlemmer og lokallag i klimaarbeid i store medlemsbaserte miljøorganisasjoner? Hvordan kan disse organisasjonene bidra til at klima kan gjøre "lokalt"? Denne oppgaven utforsker lokalt klimaarbeid i to etablerte miljøorganisasjoner: Naturvernforbundet og Danmarks Naturfredningsforening. Oppgaven viser at klimaarbeidet både engasjerer og provoserer medlemmer og lokallag, og at klimaet kan skape indre konflikt på forskjellige måter.

How are members and local chapter involved in climate work in large, member based environmental movemet organizations? How can these organizations contribute to make the climate "local"? This thesis expøpres local climate work in two established environmental organizations: the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature, and the Danish Society for Nature Conservation. The thesis shows that cilamte work can both engage and provoke members and local chapters, and that climate change can cause division in different ways.
