Den røde fare? : Framstillinger av AKP (m-l) i Aftenposten og VG, 1973-74

Abstract

Hvilke framstillinger av AKP (m-l) ble gitt i avisene Aftenposten og VG i partiets to første år, 1973 og 1974? Ble partiet framstilt som et parti som måtte tas på alvor, eller ble AKP (m-l)s politikk og virksomheter latterliggjort? Partiet selv ønsket ikke bare å bli tatt på alvor, men også angrepet av sine fiender. Verken Aftenposten eller VG hadde lite til overs for bevegelser på ytre venstre fløy, men kom dette til syne i avisenes innhold i perioden? Fordi denne oppgaven undersøker to aviser tar den utgangspunkt i at de fleste artiklene som omtaler AKP (m-l) har en saklig og nøktern framstilling av partiet. Allikevel tar den utgangspunkt i at man i avissjangre med en mer preget tilnærming, vil finne framstillinger av AKP (m-l) innenfor en negativ diskurs. Hypotesen for denne oppgaven er at AKP (m-l) i de to avisene ble framstilt som et miniparti som til tross sin marginale størrelse måtte tas på alvor. Denne oppgaven viser at hypotesen til en viss grad er riktig. Alvoret kommer til syne i framstillinger av AKP (m-l) som en rød fare, som en trussel mot demokratiet og ulike deler av samfunnslivet, særlig det offentlige. Allikevel finnes det i de to avisene i perioden også framstillinger av AKP (m-l) som naive, hvor også en viss grad av latterliggjøring finner sted. Denne oppgaven viser at AKP (m-l) i stor grad lyktes med sin målsetting om å bli tatt på alvor av sine fiender. Allikevel mislyktes også partiet, da det i tillegg blir framstilt som en del av den samlede venstresiden som det selv ønsket å markere avstand fra.

How was the Maoist party AKP (m-l) (Workers Communist Party, Marxist Leninist) represented in the Norwegian newspapers Aftenposten and VG in the party’s first years, 1973-74? Was it represented as a party that was to be taken serious, or was it ridiculed? AKP (m-l) had a goal to be treated as a serious party, and even wanted to be attacked by its enemies. Neither of the two newspapers had any sympathy for left wing movements. Was this visible through their content? Since this thesis is based on two newspapers, it is expected to find most neutral and sober representations of AKP (m-l). It is also expected to find representations of the party within a discourse that is not neutral, but rather negative. This thesis is based on a hypothesis that the main representation of AKP (m-l) within the negative discourse is the party as a marginal party that despite its small size had to be taken serious. This thesis shows that the hypothesis is mostly correct. The reason why AKP (m-l) was to be taken serious is the representation of the party as a red threat, as a threat against democracy and different parts of the Norwegian society. These representations mainly focus on the party as a threat against public society. Also, it was found a minor amount of representations of the party that ridiculed AKP (m-l)s policies and activities. This thesis shows that AKP (m-l) succeeded in their goal to be taken serious by its enemies. At the same time the party’s goal failed, as it sometimes also was represented as a part of the left wing in total, together with other groups the party itself considered as enemies.
