Challenges of contingent work : Unions and labour brokers in South Africa

Abstract

This thesis examines the challenges of contingent work encountered by trade unions in post-apartheid South Africa. While different types of contingent work have increased their presence since the transition to democracy, this is not reflected by the constituency of South African trade unions. Thus, this thesis examines the implications of contingent work, and the responses from union to meet these challenges.
