Bringing The Blue Flame Home : An Investigation of Key Factors for Household Biogas Adoption in Rural Indonesia.

Abstract

This thesis aims at investigating key factors for household biogas adoption with the case study in Sri Hardono village situated in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Province Indonesia. By employing Appropriate Technology and Social Construction of Technology (SCOT) as theoretical perspectives, in this study it is discovered several key factors that facilitate successful biogas adoption such as collaborative construction process performed in partnership by users and construction partner organization (CPO), willingness and voluntary assistance of community members for fulfilling preconditions of biogas technology, users' exposure to different information sources, organizational and religious affiliations in which users belong to, kinship relations, prior experiences dealing with different type of biogas model, and user's capability of producing innovation and modification on the biogas technology according to their ideas, prior knowledge, and their needs. These factors are important to be taken into consideration for policy decision in order to disseminate larger number of biogas technology in other areas in Indonesia.
