Adenoide vegetasjoner hos pasienter med cystisk fibrose

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the occurrence of adenoids in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) compared to a non-CF population.

Material and Method: Sixty five CF patients (mean 13,7 years, range 4-25 years), F/M: 25/40 and 100 control patients (mean 14,3 years, range 3-25 years), F/M: 46/54 were included in this retrospective study. CF patients were grouped according to number of confirmed CF-mutations (CF-0=13, CF-1=15, CF-2=37). CT scanograms were evaluated with respect to 10 different measurements (M1-M10) in the epipharynx.

Results: The frequency of adenoids in CF patients was not statistical different from the non-CF group. Further, the size of the adenoid and the air filled lumen in the epipharynx were not statistical different in the two groups. The age of the patient was the only factor that demonstrated significance.

Conclusion: CF patients do not show higher frequency of adenoids than a non-CF population. When adenoids are demonstrated in CF patients, they have the same size with respect to age than in non-CF patients.
