Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction:
As we have seen that the number of psychological disorders are increasing day by day, we decided to find out how the psychological situation is for the young minority generation, especially South-Asian teenagers in Norway, Oslo. SSB and HUBRO (2 and 3) give us the result, that every 4th youngster and teen-ager in Oslo, have a minority background.
Method:
The method we used was to search on Pubmed, Cochrane library, PsychInfo, couple of Phd degrees and the National bureau of statistics. We found some articles, which were of interest. Beside the internet we used our own experience, since we both are belonging to Pakistan by origin.
We also used HUBRO, which is a survey about physical and psychological health among the teenagers in Oslo. The HUBRO survey was published in year 2000. A part of HUBRO was to find out about differences in the minority groups and ethnics Norweagian children.
We used a meta-analysis on these studies, and compared each of them together.
Conclusion:
We found that there are few studies done on minority children/teen-agers in Norway. But, we have a similar community in England, USA, Canada. And in these studies, the results are higher prevelance of depression among minority teenagers. We found out that it is more depression among minority girls living in Oslo ( 3 ) , and also other problems like aniexty and OCD. Among the boys it was higher prevelance for depression compared with the Norweagian boys. It is the same conclusion in Brit Oppedals Phd degree.
The last word in this discussion is still open, and we hope that it will be more focus on these problems in the future and that the health and school system in Norway, take care of those who really need a holding hand.
