Abstract
Abstract/prosjekoppgave/ Angiogenese ved koronare sykdommer:
Since the recognition of the important role of angiogenenic factors in tumor growth for over 30 years ago, has angiogenesis been used as a model for explaining other conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetic retinopathies and inflammation.
Angiogenesis meaning branching and extension of preexisting capillaries is carefully balanced by different biological activities in the body.
It is stimulated by factors like VEGF and angiopoetins but it is inhibited by factors like tromboplastin.
A full understanding of the mechanisms of angiogenesis will give us the ability to induce angiogenesis and to inhibit it, depending of the situation.
Induction of angiogenesis would be of great help in patients with an ischemic heart.
Inhibition of aberrant angiogenesis would probably be the perfect way to eradicate tumor growth in the body.
Research groups all over the world have angiogenesis as a priority of work. One of the best work tools being exploring gene therapy.
One of this research groups has it s headquarter at Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo.
They go under the name of Gene therapy group.
