Journalistrolle i endring : en analyse av konvergens og flermedial praksis i mediehusene Bergens tidende og NRK Hordaland

Abstract

SAMMENDRAG Tema for denne oppgaven er journalistisk konvergens og flermedialitet. Utgangspunktet er hvordan den konvergerte virkeligheten ser ut for norske journalister et tiår etter at den første norske nettavisen ble lansert, og om journalistenes rolle er endret med overgangen til mediehus. Spørsmålene søker sine svar i en case-analyse av to bergenske mediehus; Bergens Tidende og NRK Hordaland. Det empiriske grunnlaget er kvantitativ innholdsanalyse, dybdeintervjuer med journalister og ledere i de to mediehusene og en spørreundersøkelse blant journalistene. I tillegg har jeg observert arbeidsprosesser og redaksjonelle vurderinger i en uke i hvert mediehus. Få av journalistene jobber flermedialt, men flere er bimediale, dvs publiserer på to plattformer. Selv om begge mediehusene kan sies å ha oppnådd stor grad av konvergens, preges publiseringen av gjenbruk og kopier. Et flertall av de undersøkte sakene har også samme vinkling og samme kilder på alle plattformene. Det er mange likheter mellom de to mediehusene, men de redaksjonelle medarbeiderne i NRK Hordaland er i større grad flerfunksjonelle, og utveksling av råstoff er mer utbredt her enn i BT. I forhold til anseelse er nettet nederst på rangstigen i NRK Hordaland, mens TV er lillebror i BT. Oppgavens viktigste konklusjoner er at et flertall av journalistene i de undersøkte mediehusene mener at deres rolle er endret etter at bedriften ble flermedial.

SUMMARY The theme of this thesis is journalistic convergence and multimedia. The starting point is how the converged reality is perceived by Norwegian journalists a decade after the first Norwegian Internet newspaper was launched, and if the role of the journalists has changed with the transition to media house. The questions seek their answers in a case study of two media houses in Bergen: Bergens Tidende and NRK Hordaland. The empirical basis is a quantitative content-analysis, in-depth interviews with journalists and leaders at both media houses, and a questionnaire survey among the journalists. I also spent a week observing the work-processes and editorial considerations made at each of the respective mediacenters.

Only a few of the journalists are multimedia-publishing, whereas a significant number, publish on two media platforms. Even though both media houses can be said to have achieved a high degree of convergence, the publishing is characterized by recycling and copying. The majority of cases investigated also share the same angle and sources on all platforms. Allthough there are a number of similarities between the media houses, the work of the editorial staff at NRK Hordaland is to a larger extent multifunctional, and the exchange of raw material more widespread, than is the case at BT. As far as esteem is concerned, the Internet is seen as the weakest link at NRK Hordaland, whilst TV is perceived as the younger brother at BT.

The most important conclusion of the thesis is that the majority of journalists at both media houses in question have experienced a change in their role.
