Aksept av alternativ agenda : Alternativ behandling i mediene: Bekymring eller begeistring?

Abstract

Denne studien undersøker hvordan alternativ behandling fremstilles i journalistikken. Målet med oppgaven er å finne ut hvordan fenomenet blir fremstilt og i hvilken grad mediene fremmer aksept mot alternativ behandling. Resultatet fra kvantitative og kvalitative analyser av artikler fra Dagbladet og Aftenposten, samt innslag fra helse- og livsstilsprogrammet NRK Puls, viser at temaet har fått mye plass og tilsynelatende positiv omtale, de siste årene. Et av hovedfunnene i studien viser allikevel at journalistikken setter alternativ behandling i opposisjon mot den etablerte skolemedisinen i en konfliktorientert dekning. Polariseringen motarbeider integreringen av de to medisinske tilnærmingene i samfunnet. Fenomenet blir fremstilt gjennom diskurser som på den ene siden er med på å legitimere bransjen, men også fremstiller fenomenet som noe banalt og absurd.

This study examines how alternative therapies are represented in journalism. The aim of the study is to examine how the journalistic content portrays alternative therapies, and to what extent the media promotes acceptance towards the phenomenon. The results of qualitative and quantitative analysis of articles from Dagbladet og Aftenposten, as well as the health- and lifestyle program NRK Puls, shows that the phenomenon are thoroughly represented, especially in news media recent years. One of the main findings of this study is that journalism places alternative treatment in opposition to the academic medicine through conflict-oriented coverage: A representation that has a negative impact on the integration of the medical approaches. The phenomenon is represented through a split discourse that turns from placing the phenomenon in the context of something banal and absurd to actually legitimizing alternative treatment.
