Autentisitetshunger i vår tid? : teatrale iscenesettelser av fiksjon og virkelighet

Abstract

Sammendrag I denne masteroppgaven anvendes teatralitetsteori som rammeverk for analyse av tre mediefenomener: Performanceinstallasjonen The Black Rose Trick Hotel, NRKs underholdningsprogram Tore på sporet og angrepene på The World Trade Center i New York 11. september 2001, slik de ble presentert for oss gjennom nyhetene. Felles for eksemplene er at de alle er konstruert og iscenesatt for et publikum, samtidig som de belyser forholdet mellom fiksjon og virkelighet på svært ulike måter. Oppgaven tematiserer hvordan vi ofte teatraliserer verden, og hvordan denne teatraliseringen påvirker hvordan vi betrakter iscenesettelsene omkring oss: Som teatrale og dermed fiktive, eller som autentiske. Et sentralt spørsmål som tas opp i oppgaven er hvorvidt det teatrale og det autentiske nødvendigvis må være motsetninger.

Abstract This MA thesis analyzes three phenomena from the media within the framework of theories on theatricality. The phenomena explored are the performance installation The Black Rose Trick Hotel, NRK’s televised entertainment show Tore på sporet and the attacks on The World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001, as they were presented through the news. The three examples have in common that they are all to a varying degree constructs staged for an audience. At the same time, from very different perspectives, they all shed light on the relation between the realm of fiction and the realm of reality. This thesis argues that we tend to theatricalize the world, and that this feature entails implications for how we view the productions surrounding us: They may be perceived as theatrical, and consequently fictitious, or they may be considered authentic. This thesis discusses whether the theatrical and the authentic elements necessarily are opposites.
