"Kan du røske hue ut av medisinskapet?" : en analyse av humorprogrammet Torsdagsklubbens demonstrative kynisme

Abstract

Sammendrag Denne hovedfagsoppgaven er en studie av humorprogrammet Torsdagsklubben (TV 2 2002- 2004). Programmet ble ved flere anledninger kritisert for å bedrive mobbing og uthenging av offentlig kjente personer. Da Norges statsminister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, beskrev humoren som ”ondskapsfull” til Bergens Tidende den 26.oktober 2002, gikk startskuddet for en heftig debatt om ondskapsfull og kynisk humor i mediene. Denne oppgaven søker å øke forståelsen for humoren i Torsdagsklubben ved å argumentere for at programmet danner en plattform for en demonstrativ kynisk oppførsel for komikerne. Den demonstrative kynismen fungerer både som et humoristisk virkemiddel og som et kritisk verktøy, og gjør det mulig for komikerne å angripe personer innenfor sfæren av det private og intime. Analysen legger vekt på at den sosiale samhandlingen mellom komikerne, programlederen og deres gjester, samt sjanger og konvensjoner er avgjørende for at en slik plattform kan dannes. I oppgavens andre del drøfter jeg den nevnte mediedebatten i lys av funnene i analysedel 1. Ulike meninger og følelser knyttet til komiker Otto Jespersens monolog til Kjell Magne Bondevik settes her i sammenheng med forskjellige måter å tolke humoren på.

Abstract This is a thesis about the television comedy-programme Torsdagsklubben (TV 2 2002-2004). The programme was at several occasions criticised for spiteful teasing and for humiliating famous persons in the public. When the Norwegian Prime Minister, Kjell Magne Bondevik, described the humour as “evil” to the newspaper Bergens Tidende on October 26th, 2002, it initiated a severe debate about malicious and cynical humour in the media. With this thesis I want to increase the understanding of the humour in Torsdagsklubben by arguing that the programme creates a platform for a demonstrative cynical behaviour from the comedians. The demonstrative cynicism works both as a comic effect and as a critical tool, and makes it possible for the comedians to assail the intimate and personal areas of their ‘victims’. The analysis stresses that the social interaction between the comedians, the hostess and the guests, as well as the genre and its conventions are of great importance in the forming of this platform. In the second part of the thesis I will discuss the said debate in the light of the conclusions found in part one. Different meanings and feelings towards the comedian Otto Jespersen’s monologue addressed to Kjell Magne Bondevik will be connected to the several possibilities of interpretations.
