Dødens lyse side : komikk i morbide filmkomedier

Sammendrag

Denne masteroppgaven stiller følgende spørsmål; hvordan kan vi le av at mennesker dør på film? Ettersom et eventuelt svar på dette spørsmålet ligger innenfor komikkens og filmkomediens generelle ”lovverk”, vil denne oppgaven i like stor grad være et studie av forholdet mellom komikk og komedie, som den er et studie av de morbide aspektene ved filmkomikken. Drøftingen illustreres gjennom en analyse av to morbide filmkomedier fra to forskjellige regissører, og to forskjellige epoker i filmens historie; Charles Chaplins Monsieur Verdoux (1947) og Coen – brødrenes The Ladykillers (2004). Gjennom analysen av disse filmene, vil jeg påpeke ulikheter, både i valg av komiske grep, og den eventuelle intensjonen om å skåne publikum for noe grufullt.

Summary

This thesis poses the following question; how can we laugh from seeing people die on film? As a possible answer to this question may lie within general “laws” of the comic, and film comedy, this thesis will equally be a study of the relationship between the comic and comedy, as it is a study of the morbid aspects of film comedy. The discussion will be illustrated through an analysis of two morbid film comedies of two different directors, and two different eras in film history; Charles Chaplin’s Monsieur Verdoux (1947) and The Coen Brother’s The Ladykillers (2004). Through the analysis of these films, I will point to differences, both in the choice of comic techniques, and the possible intension to spare the audience from something horrible.
