Abstract
In this thesis I examine the programmes «Forgive Me» to find out what may have caused the negative press reaction. The empirical material which I have based my thesis upon, is the 20 «Forgive Me» programmes produced in Norway, the concept «Forgive Me» and the critical reviews the programmes received in the national newspaper: Aftenposten, Arbeiderbladet, Dagbladet og VG. The borderline between what belongs to the public and what belongs to the private spheres was blurred in the programmes. I argue that the programmes received negative criticism because they broke with the normative rules regarding what can be publicly dealt with. I also show that forgiveness, which was used as a means of conflict solving in the programmes, is based upon Christian ideas, and that the negative criticism could be a reaction to the fact that what in an ecclesiatical context is a private confession, has been turned into public entertainment in the programme «Forgive Me».
