Den vakre volden : stil og estetisering av vold i film

Abstract

Opp igjennom historien har menneskene alltid latt seg fascinere av voldsskildringer. Film er et visuelt medium som er i besittelse av stilistiske virkemidler som kan omforme virkeligheten. Vold kan skildres som groteskt og ekkelt, men også som vakkert og estetisk. Denne oppgaven forsøker å besvare to spørsmål: 1) Hvilke stilistiske virkemidler tas i bruk for å fremstille vold på film og 2) hvordan fungerer estetisering av grafisk filmvold. Oppgaven vil gjennom et historisk perspektiv analysere utviklingen av stiltendenser gjennom filmer som Bonnie & Clyde (1967) og The Wild Bunch (1969). Videre vil to amerikanske 90-talls filmer bli analysert: Reservoir Dogs (1992) og Desperado (1995).

Throughout history the portrayal of violence in art and media has had the ability to fascinate. Film has the power to transform reality. Through stylistic devices film can present violence as horrible and disgusting, but it can also transform the violent expression into an aesthetic picture. This thesis will try to answer the following questions: 1) What stylistic devices can a film use when portraying violence and 2) how does the transformation of the aesthetic expression come about. The answer will be persued by examining the development of stylistic trends. The first part of the analysis will look into historic films like Bonnie & Clyde (1967) and The Wild Bunch (1969), while the the main analysis will focus on two American films from the 90ies: Reservoir Dogs (1992) og Desperado (1995).
