Den allenske persona : presentasjon og analyse av den sentrale rollefiguren i Woody Allens filmer

Abstract

Den allenske persona presenterer og analyserer den sentrale rollefiguren i Woody Allens filmer. Analysen setter den sentrale rollefiguren i et modernitetsteoretisk lys. Sentrale spørsmål i den forbindelse er: Hva er en persona? - Begrepsdefinering av persona. Hva karakteriserer Woody Allens persona som filmatisk skikkelse og som menneske i moderniteten? Analysen peker spesielt på den jødiske modernitet og temaer som seksualitet og kjærlighet. Fremstillingen beveger seg fra det generelle til det spesifikke, fra etablering av den allenske persona på grunnlag av mange filmer, til en dybdeanalyse av karakteren i tre filmer; Annie Hall, Zelig og Mighty Aphrodite. Alvy Singer i Annie Hall er den deprimerte motstanderen av moderniteten, Leonard Zelig er mannen som fortæres av modernitetens refleksivitet og til sist er Lenny Weinrib et bilde på tilpassningen og overlevelsesevnen.

The main focus of Den allenske persona lies in Woody Allens filmatic persona, the central character in Allens films. The thesis is divided into two parts; a presentation and an analysis of the filmatic persona and his most dominant characteristics. The first part of the thesis is concerned with establishing the persona as a filmatic phenomenon. The second part discusses the sociological concept of modernity and how questions concerning the theory on modernity can illuminate the life of the persona. The concept of reflexivity and a discussion on the consequences of Jewish modernity are both significant to the understanding of Allen`s persona. Three representatives of Allens filmatic persona are subject to a thorough character analysis. Who are they, what do they do and why do they do it? Alvy Singer is the main character in Annie Hall, he is depressed and explains all his doubt and troubles from a Holocaust point of view. Leonard Zelig on the other hand illustrates the reflexivity of modernity when he transforms like a chameleon. Lenny Weinrib in Mighty Aphrodite is so far the last representative of Woody Allens filmatic persona. His image is that of a more mature and sensible person than that of Alvy Singer.
