Barn og unges personvern på nett

Abstract

Denne oppgaven undersøker hvordan barn og unge forholder seg til personvernspørsmål når de er bruker Internett og sosiale nettverkstjenester. Hvordan de deler innhold, og med hvem, er sentrale spørsmål som stilles i denne oppgaven. For å belyse problemstillingen har jeg benyttet meg av en kvantitativ spørreundersøkelse og kvalitative fokus- og dybdeintervjuer. Gjennom en analyse av denne empirien, har jeg kunne belyse på individ- og gruppenivå hovedtendenser vi finner i større undersøkelser innen fagfeltet. De empiriske funnene viser at barn og unges forståelse og kjennskap til eget og andres personvern på nett er avhengig av de rammene tjenesteleverandørene setter for brukerne. De legger føringer om hvor beskyttet privat og personlig informasjon kan være. Denne undersøkelsen viser at barn og unge bryr seg om sitt privatliv og sitt personvern, og at de forsøker å verne om dette. De er bevisste på hva de mener er greit og ikke greit å dele av seg selv og av andre i nettverket. Imidlertid viser undersøkelsen at holdningene til personvernspørsmål ofte ikke følges opp i praksis.

This thesis examines how young people relate to privacy issues when using the Internet and social networking sites. How they share content, and with whom, are the central questions posed in this thesis. The research is based on a quantitative survey and qualitative focus group interview and in-depth interview. Through an analysis of this empirical data, I was able to shed light on this at an individual level and group level, and examine the main trends found in larger studies in the field. The empirical findings show that children and young people's understanding and knowledge of their own and others' privacy online is dependent on the framework the service providers sets for their users. They will determine how protected private and personal information can be. This study shows that children and young people care about their privacy, and that they are trying to protect this. They are conscious of what they think is okay and not okay to share of themselves and of others in the network. However, the survey shows that attitudes towards privacy issues are often not followed up in practice.
