Abstract
This is a qualitative study of a selection of young norwegians and their experiences of, and relation to, the war in Kosovo spring 1999. Reception analysis is used as a theoretical tool to assess which frames of interpretation they deploy to give meaning to the media coverage of the war. I have interviewed informants of both gender and with parents with higher and lower education. This to enable a study of to what extent these variables are of importance to the informants experiences of the incidents during the war. It is a common opinion that young people have low interest in the newsgenre. They are believed to be in a stage in their lives where they are searching for an identity. This might be one explanation to why they have a low capacity to take on other peoples suffering. In this study I will look upon to what extent this is true
