Kommentariatet : en studie av kommentarjournalistikken under regjeringsforhandlingene 2009

Abstract

I Samtiden nr 1 2008 skrev to unge politikere; Audun Lysbakken fra SV og Torbjørn Røe Isaksen fra Høyre, artikkelen ”Kommentariatets diktatur”, der de kommer med kraftig kritikk av de politiske kommentatorene. Med bakgrunn i Lysbakken og Røe Isaksens uttalelser om at de politiske sakene drukner i medienes fokus på spill og underholdning, ønsket jeg i denne oppgaven å se på kommentarjournalistikken og dens rolle i den offentlige debatt. Klarer kommentarjournalistikken å være en arena for mangfoldig informasjon og analyse, eller preges den av spill, underholdning og enkle løsninger? For å finne ut av dette har jeg analysert kommentarer som omhandler prosessen fra regjeringsforhandlinger til regjeringsinnsettelse etter Stortingsvalget 2009. Analysen viser at kommentarene i stor grad fokuserer på det politiske spillet fremfor den praktiske politikken, at flesteparten av kommentarene kommenterer allerede inntrufne hendelser fremfor å komme med foregripende analyse, samt at det store fokuset på det politiske spillet fører til en svært endimensjonal fremstilling av de tre regjeringspartiene.

In an article in Samtiden nr 1, 2008, two young politicians, Audun Lysbakken from SV and Torbjørn Røe Isaksen from Høyre, criticized the political commentators of the news media. They claimed that the politicissues are underplayed in the news media, while scandals, quarreling and politics as entertainment are highly overplayed. This thesis deals with commentary journalism and its role in the public debate. Is commentary journalism an arena for multifaceted information and analysis, or is it characterized by its focus on scandals, disagreement, fights for positions and easy entertainment? Trough analysis of comments on the process towards a new government after the elections in 2009, I sought to find answers to this. My analysis shows that the commentators to a great extent focus on power-struggle and disagreement among the coalition partners rather than the actual politics, that they mostly comment on events that have already happened rather than providing background analysis and predictions, and that the entertainment focus portrays the three coalition parties in a very one-dimensional way.
