Atypisk konsonantproduksjon hos et norsk barn

Abstract

I denne masteroppgava har jeg studert konsonantproduksjonen hos ei jente med fonologiske vansker. Målene med oppgava var å finne ut hva som kjennetegner produksjonen, hvordan den skiller seg fra målspråket og funn fra tidligere studier av yngre barn med typisk språkutvikling og hvordan hun produserer fonasjon ved plosiver.

For å relatere jentas fonologiske vansker til andre språklige ferdigheter, ble data om leksikalske og grammatiske ferdigheter samlet inn med kartleggingsinstrumentet CDI. Det fonologiske datamaterialet besto av både test- og spontantaledata, og produksjonene ble transkribert fonetisk. Resultatene fra analyser av konsonant- og konsonantgruppeinventar, ordkompleksitet, PCC, prosessanalyse og PCCC tyder på fonologiske vansker innenfor flere områder, og en mindre kompleks og mer avvikende fonologi enn hos vesentlig yngre barn med typisk språkutvikling. Mest framtredende er få plosiver koronalt og tilsvarende få frikativer og nasaler dorsalt, ingen stabile likvider og svært utbredt reduksjon av konsonantgrupper, særlig initialt. En akustisk analyse av fonasjon tyder på at hun i liten grad behersker norsk fonasjonskontrast, men har et signifikant fonasjonsskille mellom stemte og ustemte plosiver dorsalt.

Ordproduksjonene er analysert med artikulatorisk fonologi (Browman og Goldstein, 1992) anvendt innenfor eksemplarteori (Bybee, 2001), og jeg viser hvordan de ovennevnte avvikene kan forklares som resultat av feil i differensiering, feil i koordinering og manglende gester.

In this MA thesis, I have studied the consonant productions of a girl with phonological difficulties. The aims were to determine the characteristic features of her speech production, how the production deviates from the ambient language and from findings in precious research on younger, typically developing children, and moreover to investigate phonation in her production of oral stops.

To relate the child's phonological difficulties to other language skills, data on lexical and grammatical skills were acquired using the assessment tool CDI. The phonological data consisted of elicited speech and spontaneous speech production, and the word productions were transcribed phonetically. Results from analysises of consonant and consonant cluster inventories, PCC, process analysis and PCCC points towards phonological difficulties within several areas, and a generally less complex and more deviant phonology than findings within significantly younger typically developing children. The most prominent features are few coronal oral stops, few dorsal nasals and fricatives, no stable liquids in the inventory and widespread reduction of consonant clusters, especially in word initial position. An acoustic analysis points towards the child not mastering the Norwegian phonation contrast between voiced and unvoiced oral stops, but she does produce voiced and unvoiced dorsal stops with a significant difference in phonation.

The word productions are analyzed with articulatory phonology (Browman and Goldstein, 1992) applied within the framework of exemplar theory (Bybee, 2001), and I demonstrate how the most deviations mentioned above can be explained as a result of errors id differentiation, errors of coordination and missing gestures.
