Abstract

Oppgaven undersøker hvilke faktorer som har bidratt til å gjøre Lance Armstrong til en Amerikansk legende. Opggaven tar for seg både Lance Armstrong's reise mot legende status og hans fall.

Det viktigste funnet i oppgaven er at Lance Armstrong kan kalles en superhelt. Gjennom å sammenligne Lance Armstrong med superhelter i film eller litteratur kom det frem at de deler mange av de samme trekkene. Lance Armstrong's likhet med superhelter har vært en viktig årsak til at han har blitt en Amerikansk legende.

I tillegg er viktige faktorer som har bidrat til hans legende status hans image som familiemann, hans 7 Tour de France seire og hans bruk av ny teknologi. I tillegg er hans livshistorie svært viktig. Den inneholder mange elementer som har bidratt til hans legendestatus.

This thesis takes a closer look at which factors that have contributed to making Lance Armstrong an American legend. The thesis deals with the rise and fall of Lance Armstrong.

The most important finding is that Lance Armstrong could be seen as a superhero. When comparing Lance Armstrong to the traits of fictional superheroes it was clear that they had much in common. Lance Armstrong's similarity to a superhero has been very important in making him an american legend.

In addition there are numerous other factors that have contributed to his rise. His amazing life story has been one of the most important ones. It is a story that has many attractive elements in it. It touches on the American dream, him being the underdog, being a surviver, being a winner, being a family man and so on.

Lance Armstrong has always been accused of doping, but has never tested positive for anything. His image has also survived every accusation and investigation. There are just now a new and very serious doping investigation that targets Lance Armstrong. For a long time it seemed that nothing would come out of it and that he would most likely keep his legend status. All that changed when his friend and former teammate George Hincapie was called to testify. Hincapie's testimony is credible and will ruin Lance Armstrong's status as an American legend.
