Betydningen av Bubers dialogiske filosofi i møte med eksistensielle og etiske spørsmål

Abstract

Martin Bubers dialogiske filosofi har satt sine tydelige spor innen flere ulike felter som for eksempel filosofi, psykologi, teologi og samfunnsvitenskap. Slik sett kan man si at Buber sine teorier spenner vidt og at hans verker på mange måter er av allmenngyldig interesse og karakter. Dette essay omhandler betydningen av Bubers dialogiske filosofi i møte med eksistensielle så vel som etiske spørsmål og problemstillinger. Innledningsvis gis en redegjørelse av begrepet ”dialog” og dernest hva som ligger i Bubers dialogiske filosofi. Videre har jeg undersøkt hvordan Bubers dialogiske prinsipp faller ut sett i forhold til filosofiske grunnlagsteorier med opphav i eksistensialisme og hermeneutikk. I denne forbindelse har jeg trukket inn filosofer som blant annet Hans Skjervheim, Hans-Georg Gadamer og Charles Taylor. Min videre intensjon er å få fram hvilke fallgruver som finnes innenfor feltet og hvordan disse er tatt høyde for hos de ovenfor nevnte filosofer. Jeg avslutter essayet med en oppsummering av muligheter og utfrodringer som finnes, ikke bare innenfor Bubers dialogiske filosofi, men også innenfor den dialogiske filosofi generelt sett.

Title: The relevance of Buber’s dialogical philosophy in the context of existential and ethical questions.

Summary: Martin Buber´s dialogical philosophy has left distinct traces within various fields, like philosophy, psychology, theology and social sciences. Thus, one can say that Buber´s theories are versatile and that his work, in many respects, is of common interest and universal character. My intention in this essay is to investigate the relevance of Buber´s dialogical philosophy in the context of ethical as well as existential questions and issues. For that purpose, I start with a clarification of the term "dialogue" and move forward to an analysis of the dialogical philosophy of Buber. Furthermore, I investigated Buber´s dialogical principle and its position when compared to fundamental theories of philosophy, which are based on existentialism and hermeneutics. In this regard, I referred to philosophers like Hans Skjervheim, Hans-Georg Gadamer and Charles Taylor. A further intention of mine is to figure out the common "pitfalls" of this field and how the philosophers mentioned above have responded towards them. I conclude this essay with a summary of opportunities and challenges, which are to be found not only in the dialogical philosophy of Buber, but - more general - within the field of dialogical philosophy.
