Utsyn med fridom

Abstract

Samandrag I denne oppgåva diskuterer eg utslag av moderne fridomsforståingar, negative utslag som innanfor ein sosialfilosofisk teoritradisjon er rekna som sosiale lidingar. Eg diskuterer den sosialfilosofiske verksemda å stille samfunnsdiagnosar og ser på korleis rådande fridomsforståingar kan få negative verknader for sjølvforståing og mellommenneskeleg samhandling. Fridomssjuke er samlenemninga for ulike fridomslidingar med val og sjølvrealisering som problempunkt. Omgrepet viser også til orienteringsproblemet som oppstår når ei fridomsforståing overskrid ei kognitiv grense og tar opp plassen for andre fridomsforståingar eller andre verdiar og ideal. Sosialfilosofane Axel Honneth og Arne Johan Vetlesen gir to ulike framstillingar av samanhengen mellom fridomsforståingar og fridomssjuke. Eg vurderer korleis vendinga Honneth gjer mot kommunikativ fridom og fokuset Vetlesen har på ufråvikelege grunnvilkår fangar opp samanhengen mellom fridomsforståingar og dei negative verknadene eg kallar fridomssjuke.

Summary In this thesis, I discuss effects of modern concepts of freedom, effects that within the theoretical tradition of social philosophy are considered social pathologies. I discuss the social-philosophical activity of diagnosing the community and look at how prevalent concepts of freedom can have negative effects on self-understanding and interpersonal interaction. Pathology of freedom is a collective term for different freedom disorders assosiated with choice and self fulfillment. The term also points to the orientation problem emerging when a concept of freedom exceeds a cognitive threshold and replaces other concepts of freedom, or other values and ideals. Social philosophers Axel Honneth and Arne Johan Vetlesen give two different presentations of the connection between concepts of freedom and pathologies of freedom. I consider how Honneth’s turn towards communicative freedom, and Vetlesen’s focus on absolute universal basic conditions catches the connection between concepts of freedom and the negative effects I term pathology of freedom sickness.
