In July 1937 the Peel Commission recommended that the Palestine Mandate should be abolished and that the area be partitioned into a separate Jewish and Arab state. By late 1938, however, the same proposal was by all means dead and buried. This thesis examines why the British Foreign Office came to oppose the partition scheme, and how they went about to prevent its implementation.eng
