Introduction: It is known that regular physical activity prevents diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer, but there is still not a specific form of training that is recognized to be superior to others in terms of improving health. This literature review aims to compare 4x4 minutes interval training on high intensity (4x4) to moderate-intensity continuous training, and look at the outcome measures body mass index (BMI), systolic and diastolic blood pressure and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). Methods: This literature review searched for relevant studies in the database Medline (Pubmed). The articles that were incorporated compared 4x4 minutes intervals on high intensity to moderate-intensity continuous training, with regards to the outcome measures BMI, blood pressure and HbA1c. Eight randomized clinical trials were included in this literature review. Results: Most studies showed no difference between 4x4 and moderate intensity continuous training on BMI, blood pressure and HbA1c. One study showed that 4x4 was superior to moderate-intensity continuous training on improving BMI and HbA1c, whereas none of the studies showed any difference regarding blood pressure. Conclusion: In terms of improving the health indicators BMI, blood pressure and HbA1c, there is no detectable difference between 4x4 minutes intervals on high intensity and moderate-intensity continuous training. It must be taken into consideration that this literature review included a low number of articles and participants, and a heterogeneous group of study participants.eng
